...I wish I knew what Suzan looked like as an adult... She looks like a school teacher here.

It hasn't been stated, yet, but I think it's implied that Suzan could be Alice's writer. They found each other as orphans and shared a very close bond of friendship and trust as children, like one would associate with a Namesake and Writer.

With these ideas in mind, I, like any properly insane, stalkerish fangirl, scoured secondlina's lovely artwork and found a bit of information in a comment reply where she reveals that Fred is a "fairly young card."

This has led me to assume that Alice and Suzan created the card soldier deck, or at least "updated" it with replacement cards like Fred. Also, Alice, in her backstory, was very affectionate when she referred to the card soldiers.... and Alice's reaction to Elaine accidentally messing with Fred all makes perfect sense now.

Because Fred is Alice's KID.

I can see it now... Alice giving Fred "The Talk"......
